Universal Fire And Security Ltd have recently completed the upgrade of fire and security systems in Windsor House Plymouth, for Plymouth City Council. In conjunction with SSE Contracting, who led the refit project for the six storey building, the fire system was upgraded and redesigned to L2 requirements with a new closed circuit television system (CCTV system) being installed, intruder alarm system being upgraded and modifications made to the access control system. The new layout to the building will accommodate some 450+ staff as Plymouth City Council continue with their accommodation strategy of utilising their buildings more effectively throughout the city. The major battle in this project was to keep the systems operational at the same time as upgrading over the phased refit of the different floors of the building. The fire system was critical to ensure the areas that continued to be occupied had full coverage whilst work was being carried out on unoccupied areas. The project started June 2012 and the final handover took place at the end of April 2013.
